Xiaomi Mi 5 Arriving in February, Snapdragon 820 in Tow

Xiaomi’s Mi flagships are arguably one of the most competitive smartphones to be released in the year. Although the devices are poor in terms of aftermarket ROM development, they tend to pack in beastly specs and still command a fraction of what other flagships cost.

The next iteration of the Mi lineup, the Xiaomi Mi 5, has been confirmed for an arrival in February. Xiaomi Co-Founder Liwan Jiang took to Chinese microblogging service Weibo to announce that the Xiaomi Mi 5 is already in mass production stage in its product cycle. This is to ensure that enough stock is available when the product is released after the Chinese Spring festival, which falls on February 8 this year.

So, what can we expect out of Xiaomi Mi 5? Let us take a look at all the specs rumored so far:

Disclaimer: These specs are based on rumors, leaks and reports. Things can change between now and the official announcement. So do take these with a slight pinch of salt.

  • Reported cost: CNY 1,999 (~$305) for 3GB variant and CNY 2,299 (~$350) for 4GB variant

Nonetheless, the Mi 5 is shaping up to be an exciting device at a price that is hard to believe. We hope the device launches with adequate bands for international support, as this has been a weak area for Chinese device in general.

What are your thoughts on the Xiaomi Mi 5? If the device supports all major bands, will you look at purchasing it? Let is know your thoughts in the comments below!
